Drafting Futures. Conversations about Next Perspectives, Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026

The programme of Talks at the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026 will bring together architecture, design, and industry to interpret the transformations of the present. From the first edition of the Salone Contract Forum, coordinated by Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten (OMA), to international conversations and panels, right through to events designed for the weekend public: an initial selection of speakers, disciplines and visions to interpret the present

The cultural programme of the Salone del Mobile.Milano has evolved over time into an autonomous infrastructure for the production of meaning: a platform where the culture of design — understood as an interpretative, critical and forward-looking practice — becomes the common thread through which different disciplines converge to interpret the transformations taking place. The various fields that the programme brings together do not merely frame the exhibition, but serve as a tool to expand and orient it. It was this vision that led to the creation, four years ago, of Drafting Futures. Conversations about Next Perspectives, curated by Annalisa Rosso, Editorial and Cultural Director-Advisor, based in the Drafting Futures Arena by Formafantasma, Rho Fiera Milano, Pavilion 14.

Salone Contract Forum

For the first time, the Drafting Futures Arena will be hosting the Salone Contract Forum, developed in collaboration with OMA which, on 22nd April, will introduce a structured reflection on the transformations in the Contract sector. The Forum marks a strategic step towards the first edition of the event in 2027, addressing an international audience that is well-informed and focused on the market’s most relevant themes. The proceedings will open with the round table Contract Sector Opportunities in a Transforming Industry, moderated by Ed Stocker, Europe Editor at Large at Monocle. The panel explores how economic pressures, evolving sustainability regulations and supply chain fragilities are redefining the sector — opening up concrete avenues for innovation, new value creation models and positioning opportunities for professionals across the supply chain. Participants among others include Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, and David Gianotten, Managing Partner – Architect at OMA.

The afternoon will take the form of a 3-part in-depth session. The founder of OMA will open with the Masterclass Lecture by Rem Koolhaas: Current Preoccupations, followed by the presentation of the Salone Contract Masterplan by David Gianotten. The session will be rounded off by the round table discussion Common Ground Among the Pillars of the Contract Ecosystem, moderated by Christele Harrouk, Editor-in-Chief of ArchDaily. The panel will explore how designers, manufacturers and operators align themselves throughout the entire life cycle of a project, from strategic thinking through to implementation, and how these intersections can translate into concrete operational frameworks for a resilient and future-oriented contract ecosystem.

Drafting Futures. Conversations about Next Perspectives

The programme of talks and conversations will take an interdisciplinary approach to a range of design issues, featuring speakers offering radically different geographical, disciplinary and operational perspectives. Tosin Oshinowo, a Nigerian architect, designer and creative entrepreneur, in conversation with Amanda Ferber, founder of Architecture Hunter, will introduce a critical perspective on African architecture and urbanism on 23rd April, drawing on her practice and her curatorial work on innovation under conditions of resource scarcity. Her thinking challenges conventional design paradigms, proposing an approach attentive to the cultural and climatic imperatives of the twenty-first century. The programme for 24th April will feature David Barragán, co-founder of the Ecuadorian studio Al Borde, in conversation with Marcela Fibbiani, a design journalist. Barragán is a firmly-established figure in Latin American architectural practice, known for its community-based approach and its ability to produce quality architecture in limited-resource contexts.

The programme will conclude on Saturday 25th April with a performance by Matteo Caccia, curated by Rivista Studio. *Casa – Luogo – Sentimento* [Home – Place – Feeling] is a monologue that explores how the home transforms over time without ever ceasing to be itself: a space that changes in form and function whilst remaining the most meaningful place in everyone’s lives. In addition to these, on Sunday 26th, there will be a meeting with radio presenter La Pina, in collaboration with Radio Deejay, sharing her personal perspective on the Salone, exploring ways of living through the lens of what the event showcases. Two events for design lovers that weekend, designed to spark curiosity and foster connections around the issues connected with design – and which are testament to the Salone’s aim to speak not only to those who create design, but also to those who live with it.
