For a long time we believed that living better meant living bigger. Today, increasingly often, the opposite happens

The new President Vincenzo Trione and General Director Carla Morogallo presented the strategic guidelines for the next four years. The new structure features the introduction of the position of Creative Director, entrusted to Michele De Lucchi, who also takes on the role of head of Triennale's Museo del Design Italiano
Vincenzo Trione, President of Triennale Milano, declared: “Triennale, in dialogue with Milan and the international context, presents itself as a world institution; as a cultural infrastructure in which the cultures, knowledge, practices and media of the contemporary world debate and hybridize together; as a complex system that makes architecture, design, art, photography, fashion, cinema, theater and music resonate together; as a place that focuses on bringing to the fore the issues of the present time; as a territory for exhibitions and events, but also for study, conservation and appreciation; as a school for higher education and research, in collaboration with the Universities; but above all, as a system that is committed to bringing the public into contact with the evolution of the present day languages of design and the visual arts; as an institution that is stable, while at the same time open to the tumultuous events occurring today, in front of our eyes; and finally, as a machine for critical thought, that asks questions about some of the decisive problems and issues of our time and offers possible answers, far from all ideologies. With one ambition: to occupy a central place in the life of a great city, of a community, of a country and of Europe.”
Carla Morogallo, General Director of Triennale Milano, stated: “Triennale is an institution in constant evolution. Over the years, it has demonstrated the ability to respond to the challenges and opportunities that permeate the world of culture, to listen to the needs of the public, and to meet the constantly changing planning requirements. We will face this new chapter with awareness of the work we have done up to now and with enthusiasm for the projects and activities to come. The evolution will also involve some aspects of strategic and managerial development in order to expand and diversify forms of support and to further reinforce our international standing.”
Michele De Lucchi, Creative Director of Triennale Milano, commented: “I thank the President and am happy to accept the title of Creative Director because it is the role that suits me best, the role of designer, and I wish to transform the Triennale institution into a laboratory of vitality. Design is not a static act, but is increasingly today the process of devising a positive shared scenario that will, in particular, guide us through the big contradictions: between past and future, between the concrete and the virtual, between human and digital, and between disciplines and divergent visions. I have in mind a route that leads us to construct and to embody the concept of ‘sustainability of the collective
imagination’."
The new advisory committee was also presented at the press conference, composed of: Michele De Lucchi, curator of design and Director of the Museo del Design Italiano, Manuela Lucà-Dazio, curator of architecture, and Andrea Viliani, curator of contemporary art.
The committee also includes some scientific consultants for specific discipline areas. Paolo Mereghetti has been brought in to reinforce the presence of the cinema in Triennale; Carlo Antonelli has been reconfirmed for music and Luca Stoppini for fashion. Chiara Spangaro will be responsible for the scientific Triennale Milano coordination of the Triennale Archives. Umberto Angelini is the Artistic Director for the Triennale theater. Damiano Gullì will be curator of the public program and publishing activities, and Marco Sammicheli will be Design Week Exhibition Program Lead. Luca Cipelletti is the Architectural Director of Palazzo dell’Arte.

Triennale Milano's strategic guidelines for the 2026-2030 four-year period
Triennale's cultural programming will be renewed around an annual guiding theme expressed in the form of a question, which will be addressed through exhibitions, publications, and public programs. Among the new initiatives: public art interventions entrusted to international designers, the expansion of the Museo del Design Italiano's collection curated by Michele De Lucchi, and the "Work in progress" lecture series featuring guests like Asma Mhalla leading up to the 25th International Exhibition in 2028. Central to this vision will be the reactivated Centro Studi, chaired by Trione and supported by an outstanding Advisory Board composed of Melania Mazzucco, geographer Franco Farinelli, sociologist Nathalie Heinich, physicist Carlo Rovelli, theologian and philosopher Padre Benanti, and essayist and author Giuliano da Empoli, alongside the Cuore space dedicated to higher education, research, and the enhancement of archives. The Triennale PhD Program will be launched for new research doctorates on themes central to the institution, as well as Fellowship programs for scholars, curators, architects, artists, and designers, promoted through international open calls. Furthermore, the performing arts offerings, integrated publishing (including Lotus magazine and podcasts), and international-style support models like the Board of Trustees will be strengthened. The 2027 program will be revealed in November 2026.
