Magazines from the world Italian inspirations Italian inspirations While things are hotting up in Milan in preparation for the event most keenly awaited by professionals, the Swiss magazine Das Ideale Heim has come up with a multitude of products launched over the last year by the furnishing companies, many of which have confirmed their participation at “supersalone”. Salone del Mobile Milano is on from 5 to 10 September 2021. As such, both the Government and the organisers of the world’s largest design event in the furnishing sector have made a commitment. The trade fair will have an innovative concept, focusing on promoting the latest products, technologies and projects of the companies involved. Its intention is to pick up on conversations, relationships and contact with the market with specialists, customers and fans interrupted by the pandemic. Nonetheless, the creative scene, also represented over the year in the Lombard city, has already been celebrating its presence since mid-April. Many brands have already presented new products and allowed an international community to take part online. Sustainability plays just as an important role as reflecting on the great design heritage of the Italian maestros. For example, Molteni is showing two new editions from Gio Ponti’s archive – including a desk able to win over in its minimalistic yet poetic form. Cassina is also conjuring up the old masters, with the label bringing back the “Edison” table design by Vico Magistretti from the 80s. These new editions are complemented by current designs by contemporary designers, already icons for some time. For example, this is how Antonio Citterio designed the “Noonu” sofa for B&B, Pierro Lissoni the “Sumo” sofa for Living Divani, and his “KN Collection” is being developed for Knoll. Among other things, Patricia Urquiola designed the organically light “Pacific” sofa for Moroso, and Werner Aisslinger developed the ”Cord” lamp for Cappellini. For now, the furniture companies prefer to play it safe engaging the known designers. It seems we’ll have to find out about the surprising young designers coming to the event in September.
