Thanks to the contribution from Feltrinelli and the visitors to the Library of Light installation, designed by the British artist and designer Es Devlin for Salone 2025, the over 3000 volumes that compose the work are continuing their journey through the hands and minds of new readers

Library of Light is the title of the installation devised by the British artist and designer Es Devlin, created during the Salone del Mobile 2025 in one of the most striking settings in the city of Milan: the Pinacoteca di Brera.

The project arose from synergy between the Salone del Mobile, the Pinacoteca di Brera and La Grande Brera,  with the contribution of Feltrinelli and the support of A2A. From 7 April to 5 May,  the monumental kinetic installation designed by Es Devlin was the centerpiece of the 17th-century Courtyard of Honor connecting the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense and the Accademia di Belle Arti.

Library of Light is a revolving cylindrical sculpture 18 meters in diameter consisting of illuminated shelves holding over 3000 selected volumes donated by Feltrinelli and the visitors, who were able to make their contribution and enlarge this public archive. During the opening days, the installation was transformed into a stage for ideas and dialogues, hosting a series of encounters weaving together art, literature, craftsmanship and reflections on our time.

Today the volumes have officially become part of the heritage of the Milan Library System, ready to continue their journey through the hands and minds of new readers. A symbolic and significant gift that the Salone del Mobile presents to the city, testifying to its commitment as a cultural promoter and its constant and active dialogue with the design community.
