A journey in stages to the principal cities in Europe and further abroad to present the innovations at the next edition, scheduled from 8 to 13 April, and broach new thinking about design and living

After the appointments in New York, Shanghai and Hong Kong, the event “Salone, Milano and Beyond”, has officially kicked off on the international tour of the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2025. A journey in stages that in the coming months will take in the most important cities in Europe and even further abroad, involving journalists, professionals, architects and designers: the voices of all those who are part of the design industry on a daily basis, qualified voices capable of offering stimuli for broader reflections that start from the design world and extend to involve multiple areas of society. Because design is everywhere.

The tour opened in Munich, where the identity of the first The Euroluce International Lighting Forum” was revealed. This is a biennial event to be held on 10 and 11 April 2025 in the context of the lighting biennial as part of the 63rd edition of the Salone del Mobile. A two-day event offering round tables, workshops and talks, with international guests and experts from different fields, including lighting designers, creatives, architects, scientists and lighting professionals, who will be discussing crucial issues such as the interaction between light, architecture and well-being.

The speakers at the Munich event were: Carlo Urbinati, Assoluce President of FederlegnoArredo; Marva Griffin Willshire, founder and curator of the SaloneSatellite; Marco Sabetta, General Manager, Salone del Mobile.Milano. Light was the theme of a Round Table moderated by Sandra Hofmeister, author and editor-in-chief of Detail, where the speakers were: Carla Wilkins, member of the Board of IALD and senior partner of Lichtvision Design; Stefan Diez, industrial designer focused on sustainability, former participant in the SaloneSatellite; and Simon Schmitz, designer with his debut at the SaloneSatellite, an interpreter of light as a synthesis between functionality and artistic sense.

Marco Sabetta, General Manager of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, said: “The combination of culture, art and design is an integral part of the event’s identity. These are three fundamental factors that increasingly characterize the Salone del Mobile and are set it characterize it even more in the years to come. The history of the Salone is rich in culture, as well as having close ties to art.”

Carla Wilkins, IALD Board Member and Senior Partner of Lichtvision Design, spoke about the importance of sustainability for the design industry: “I believe that sustainability and innovation are really the industry’s driving forces. And for the lighting community, it is essential to always look at innovation and take responsibility for doing so in sustainable ways.”

Regarding the role of light in our lives, Carlo Urbinati, President of Assoluce of FederlegnoArredo, asked: “Why is it important that for our lighting to be correct? Because it is proven, and is now public knowledge: light has biological effects, and therefore it is essential for those involved in designing and preparing interiors to be illuminated to take this into account. Not to mention the need to communicate correctly and consistently with the spirit of the interiors where people work, and so be sure that we are transferring a perception, often unconscious, that is in keeping with the expected objectives.”

After Munich, the tour will continue to the USA. Here, on 4 December, during Art Week Miami, with the support of the ITA – Italian Trade Agency, the Soho Beach House will be the setting for an exclusive party. At the end of January, the tour will arrive in North America and then in February it will visit various European cities, accompanied by digital insights for an ongoing dialogue with the whole international design community.

Anticipating the international stages, on 28 November in Milan, the “(Eco) System Design Milano” – Annual Report 2024 of the Salone del Mobile.Milano will be presented at the Piccolo Teatro Grassi and in streaming from 10 a.m. It will present the first results of the research project conducted under the scientific supervision of the School of Design of the Politecnico di Milano. The encounter will open with a keynote speech by Charles Landry, the highest international authority on the use of creativity and imagination for the rebirth of cities.
