Wallpaper* celebrates its first quarter of a century

Wallpaper*, a London based magazine, has reached its first quarter century mark. In this issue former editors-in-chief and collaborators offer up their recollections and reflections, we get the lowdown on new products, meet a group of new creative leaders, and look at new projects such as Discovered and Weddingpaper*.

In her leader, Wallpaper*’s Editor-in-Chief Sarah Douglas explains that this special issue is not just an opportunity to "connect the dots" and look back over the past 25 years with the help of her predecessors Tyler Brûlé, Jeremy Langmead and Tony Chambers, who by the way was moderating “Women within Institutions” Open Talk at “supersalone”. It is also an opportunity to look ahead. Which is why Frida Escobedo, Theaster Gates, Formafantasma, Michèle Lamy and Nendo were invited to name five creative leaders of the future. The magazine also showcases new furniture designs by Daniel Arsham for Freidman Benda, Peter Saville's recent fabric collection for Kvadrat and a celebration of the creative process with photos by Leandro Farina and the Head of Interiors Olly Mason. Coming out with this issue is the very first edition of Weddingpaper*, Wallpaper*’s own guide to nuptial choices, followed by a rundown of the year's most lavish looks and some amazing highlights from the Salone del Mobile.Milano.

The magazine delves into the Discovered project that arose from an editor’s letter entitled "From Wallpaper* with Love". In partnership with long-time collaborator David Venables from AHEC, twenty emerging designers from all over the world were singled out and recruited to create a new object or piece of furniture out of four American hardwoods: soft maple, hard maple, cherry and red oak.
The work will be on display at the Design Museum in London until October 10. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Wallpaper* there were also fireworks (and the fire brigade) with Judy Chicago's legendary niçoise salad, accompanied by a coloured smoke sculpture created by the artist and photographed by her husband Donald Woodman. This special issue straddles the past and the present, bringing together poignant memories and glimpses into the future.
