The inspiration comes from the Jūnihitoe, a traditional ceremonial kimono worn by Japanese court ladies during the Heian period. The Jūnihitoe creates beautiful color gradients and volume by layering numerous sheer silk garments. For this sun lounger as well, rather than using a simple, flat surface, I wanted to impart a sense of elegance and narrative through a form that evokes the feeling of overlapping layers.

JUNI is an invitation to pause and enjoy the simplicity of the moment. Designed by the Japanese studio The Design Labo , this piece stems from a contemporary interpretation of Japanese culture, merging architectural precision with poetic comfort. Inspired by the Junihitoe —the intricate layering system of traditional Japanese court attire— , JUNI presents itself as a habitable sculpture where lightness and volume dialogue to create a personal sanctuary under the sun. Its fluid silhouette moves away from the usual rigidity of outdoor furniture to gain warmth and tactile elegance.

The sophistication of its design is matched by high-resistance technical materiality. The structure is crafted entirely from 100% recyclable polyethylene via rotational molding, ensuring exceptional durability in the most demanding environments. By dispensing with superfluous elements, the purity of its lines highlights its iconic character, making JUNI an aesthetic statement ideal for both residential projects and the boutique hotel sector.
