Turri: a hundred-year history, a dynamic present and a future in progress

Turri, Atelier Living, 2024
The story of an emblematic Made in Italy company and a leader in the customised high end furnishing sector. A tale of evolving styles, balancing an identity to be preserved with market demands
One hundred candles, each of them significant, because each one tells a story of wood and vision, of Brianza and the world, of tradition and innovation. Turri is proudly notching up one hundred years in a spirit of craftsmanship and entrepreneurial ambition, with solid roots and branches that stretch increasingly beyond the national confines.
Pietro Turri opened his shop in Carugo in 1925, in the wood-championing Brianza district. Since then the name Turri has been synonymous with bespoke furnishing, hand-crafted luxury and sculpted elegance, combining artisan tradition and technical innovation. The founder’s five children dreamed big – opening their first shop in Milan, the beating heart of opportunities during the ‘50s - and the brand soon became established as one of the stars of Italian design, without ever losing its sartorial identity.
The ‘80s and ‘90s served to accelerate the internationalisation process, particularly on the Saudi Arabian, Emirates, Kuwait and Chinese markets, responding to the growing demand for high-end furnishings for exclusive residences and contract projects pursuing the Turri decorative style, characterised by precious materials, golden details, elaborate inlays and sinuous shapes. Totally customised turnkey solutions defined private villas, boutique hotels, embassies, representative locations and luxury yachts.
Under the helm of Andrea Turri, representing the fourth generation of the family brand, 2007 saw a clear change of course: a single vision both from a managerial and a stylistic point of view. A new factory was opened in Briosco, in 2013, and a maximalist language ushered in, with modern luxury distinguished by refined decorative details to attract a more modern and demanding clientele.
The style changed direction again over the following decade: the design was further lightened but the details remained. The contemporary sartorial concept, Modern Luxury, took off, in which classic luxury made way for elegance and functionality, and with it a squad of leading names – such as Monica Armani, Paola Navone, Daniel Libeskind, Matteo Nunziati and Marco Acerbis – who designed spaces even before they designed objects. Always remaining true to the company’s original artisan spirit.
The company further boosted its presence on the international markets, joining the Gruppo Dexelance in 2023, the only Italian group quoted on the stock exchange. Changing everything so as not to lose anything, however. An ambassador for Made in Italy, today Turri is synonymous with sartorial quality, materials selected with meticulous care and customisation down to the last millimetre. A company that makes 50-60 new products a year, each as a small prototype. A brand that has kept its artisanal DNA intact, but has translated it into a global, fresh and dynamic language.
While in 2024, 99% of turnover was generated by exports - China, India and the Middle East – the company’s latest goal is positioning itself on the American market – last September, Turri took part in the event From Italy with Love organised by the Salone del Mobile.Milano at Bloomingdale’s in New York, and opened its first showroom in May, shortly after the restyling of the Milan flagship store at the end of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, in which the company has unfailingly taken part since the very first edition in 1961.
Ambitious projects and structured investments designed to strengthen the brand, breaking into new market niches and maintaining its leadership position in customised high end furnishing and sartorial Made in Italy innovation - Turri’s future already lies in its present.
