Bitossi Ceramiche

Since 1921 Bitossi has been synonymous with Italian tradition and craftsmanship excellence in the world of ceramics.

Bitossi is synonymous with the historical identity of Italian manufacturing and its land, the region of Montelupo Fiorentino in Tuscany. With a history dating to the second half of the nineteenth century, the Bitossi factory, which today is proudly known as Bitossi Ceramiche, has been in the family for five generations. Drawing from a long dynasty and tradition, Guido Bitossi founded the "Maioliche artistiche Guido Bitossi" factory in 1921, proposing a production style that combines tradition and classical styles of the past with research and a study of ceramics products. In the early fifties, the company’s evolution took a modern vein under the artistic direction of Aldo Londi, a man with an innate creative and aesthetic sense and a keen eye for the market development of italian products. Londi entered Bitossi in 1946 and, from then on, became the undisputed protagonist for more than fifty years, first as a painter, then as an artistic director, and finally as a tireless researcher of sought-after styles and models. Over the years, many designers have contributed to the productions of Manifattura Bitossi, interpreting tradition and giving life to new lines, names including Ettore Sottsass, Nathalie Du Pasquier, FormaFantasma, Bethan Laura Wood, Max Lamb, Christoph Radl, Pierre Marie, Quincoces Drago, Matteo Thun, George J. Sowden, Marco Zanini, Michele De Lucchi, Karim Rashid, Arik Levy, and Fabio Novembre.

Bitossi now invests primarily in research and design of designer ceramics while continuing to interpret the tradition by proposing Aldo Londi’s iconic subjects Bitossi Ceramiche, still, today found on its historical premises of 1929, has been run for generations by the original family, from Vittoriano Bitossi to his daughter Cinzia, then his niece Ginevra Bocini Bitossi, always representing the Italian “Made in Italy” excellence. In 2014, the Manifattura was listed in the Register of "Historical Italian Companies" established by the Unioncamere Nazionale and the Chamber of Commerce.
