Qonaqkent (Sumak-Frame)

For his work in the award-winning ‚Erased‘ series, Jan Kath has been searching for cultural textile treasures for many years. In the archives in Baku, he discovered some of the rare remaining originals from the Greater Caucasus. The mountain range bordering Europe and Asia, is the cradle of numerous traditional carpet designs. During the Soviet era, however, many of these patterns fell into oblivion. Jan Kath has revived it in the ERASED CAUCASUS collection, which he had knotted using the old sumac knotting technique, as can be seen in this piece 'Qonaqkent'. At the same time, the rugs gain a lively, contemporary twist by combining them with the typical ‚Erased effects‘.

Hand-knotted designer rugs in highland wool and the finest Chinese silk, refined using the exclusive Jan Kath antique finishing process. Made in the old Mughal capital Agra, India and certified by the Swiss "Label Step".
