Carl Hansen & Søn celebrates 110 years

It’s time for celebration at Carl Hansen & Søn. The legendary Danish firm has notched up 110 anniversary candles. A special edition of one of its most iconic pieces, the Wishbone Chair, has been produced to mark the occasion and will remain on sale until the end of this year. Eight new shades rooted in nature, inspired by Denmark’s forests, beaches and woods, are available in deep, soft hues. Earthy tones such as Rosy Blush, Russet Red and Deep Burgundy contrast with classic Navy Blue. The Oyster Grey, Forest Green, Midnight Blue and Deep Olive colours are designed to evoke a feeling of connection with the environment.

Designed by Hans J. Wegner, the Danish architect who pioneered Nordic Modernism, recognised the world over as the master of chair design (he produced more than 500 models during his career), the Wishbone Chair has been produced by Carl Hansen & Søn without a break since 1950 and is still made by hand today. The 14 component parts are assembled by hand, including the seat, which is woven from 120 metres of paper cord.

Known for its unusual fork-shaped backrest, this chair is the epitome of the brand’s design philosophy. A sophisticated blend of simplicity of design, tactile materials and timelessness, this is a chair that aspired, and still does aspire to be part of any household, in any era.
