The shade is the essence of a lamp, the main element that has the function of diffusing light, and that is complemented by a structure, support or mechanism to place this light source in space.
The lamps of the CILINDRE collection were originally created in 1966, in a period in which the designers who were part of ADI-FAD association tried to consolidate the new profession, within a primarily functional and austere style, free of superfluous ornaments. With the aim of differentiating what is essential from what is complementary, the designers decided that the shade would be everything, that it would dispense with the rest of the traditionally established structural complements, such as the foot and the base, to generate a single volume that would cover all the functions.
In the 2022 version, with the intention of providing the whole with more warmth, we have incorporated a subtle ash wood profile on the back to place the lampholder and replace the original methacrylate element that performed this function.
Joan Miró and Josep Lluís Sert, painter and architect, understood this conceptual synthesis and chose the Cilindre lamps to illuminate different spaces in their respective houses in Ibiza, due to their light diffusion and integration into that pure and rationalist architecture.
