Fusion bench

Fusion is a kind of social network but with real people. A bench system suitable for collaborative, individual work, meetings, moments of relaxation and sharing, which integrates lounge areas, workstations and user-friendly details.

Design John Bennett and Sakura Adachi.

The office work environment is becoming more and more versatile: it is not only a place to work, but also to meet and chat, eat and drink, rest and relax. Fusion is built on the basis of a kind of three-dimensional structure: every detail is carefully designed around the behaviors and activities of the people in the office space. A variety of configurations create different atmospheres and landscapes, which are not only suitable for individual and collaborative work, but also for impromptu meetings and short breaks in a more relaxing and domestic environment (homely) and in a less institutionalized context. Fusion is an office system that also responds to a new scenario such as sharing and co-working space.

The workplace should be like a kind of social network but with real people who want to have fun and express their personalities while working as a team. On a technical level, Fusion is made with a 40X40 metal tubular structure, thickness 20/10, painted with epoxy powders in two standard finishes (white and anthracite), and in an on-demand finish (aubergine). The tops are made of melamine sp. 30 mm, and they slide horizontally on spacers, so as to allow easy access to the sockets and cables housed in the central metal tray. The worktops are available in the standard birch, white or anthracite finishes. The screen dividers are made of wood conglomerate covered in fabric, and equipped with elastic bands or magazine pockets. The above or under counter storage (bag holders) are made of press-folded metal sheet. The sofas are made with a wooden conglomerate frame and fabric upholstery, in the same finishes as the screens.

Fusion is transformed not only on a functional level, but also in the use of materials, giving life to Fusion green: in collaboration with Arch. Matteo Silverio, in fact, Fusion has evolved becoming even more versatile and people oriented. The worktops in melamine are replaced with tops made with linseed oil and hemp. The screen dividers are flanked by planters printed in bioplastics deriving from coffee grounds and containing a technology for automatic air sanitization. All small plastic components are replaced by organically derived bioplastics.
