Claudio Luti, President of the Salone del Mobile, has been awarded the Ambrogino d’Oro, the Municipality of Milan’s highest honour, which is conferred upon distinguished institutions and citizens in appreciation of their human and professional merits.
Of the 41 awards traditionally conferred each year on the feast of the city’s patron saint, Sant’Ambrogio (St. Ambrose), the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala presented one of the 15 Gold Medals to Claudio Luti, with the following motivation:
“An entrepreneur who moves easily between the realms of fashion and design, he has brought the same ambitious vision, with its focus on creativity, research and innovation, and a unique hallmark to all his projects. He is a true global ambassador for Made in Italy. At Kartell he transformed the furnishing sector, bringing it to life and making product design accessible to all. His collaborations with leading Italian and international designers have spawned objects that have become very real style icons, in which attention to functionality has not implied the sacrifice of form or looks, but has served to elevate them. As President of the Salone del Mobile, his commitment to promoting and encouraging ‘Italian savoir-faire’ saw him launch a manifesto linking the event to Milan, turning it into a global hub of the art of design and catalysing the attention of international architects, professionals and investors.”
